Preventing Torture

through investigation and documentation

This is the site of the Prevention through Documentation project which ended March 31st 2009. The project was led by the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) in partnership with the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey, REDRESS, Physicians for Human Rights and the World Medical Association.

Here you can find information and guidance on the investigation and documentation of torture as a means to combat impunity, ensure reparation for survivors and prevent torture. Our wish is to promote awareness and encourage the use of the Istanbul Protocol, which is an invaluable tool for health and legal professionals in establishing evidence of torture.
