US centre presents annual award to UN Voluntary Fund
09-08-2012Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), a US-based rehabilitation centre and IRCT member, presented its annual Eclipse Award to the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture.
The award presentation followed a panel discussion in Washington, D.C. with CVT, key human rights and rehabilitation experts and survivors of torture living in the US. The panel and presentation focused on the financial support that the UN Voluntary Fund provides to around 180 torture rehabilitation centres in the US and around the world. Despite its vital support, the UN Voluntary Fund, which relies on voluntary international contributions, has recently faced a severe decrease in donations.
Since 2001, CVT has honoured individuals or organisations for service for the protection and healing of torture survivors with the Eclipse Award.
