About CCTI

 

Colectivo Contra la Tortura y la Impunidad (CCTI) is a Mexican non-profit civil society organisation founded on 26 June 2004. It brings together professionals with careers and experience in Human Rights and the topic of torture as well as survivors of torture and their families.

 

The organisation’s objectives include contributing as an independent civil society organisation to the building of a state of law free of torture and ill-treatment in Mexico, through the documentation of torture; physical as well as mental and social health care of torture survivors, their families and communities; specialised training of health staff; research; dissemination; legal defence as well as filing formal complaints and doing advocacy with authorities.

 

Currently CCTI has a team working in the Federal District of Mexico and another in Acapulco, Guerrero, consisting of health professionals (medical and psychological), lawyers and other social science professionals. There are also professional as well as non-professional volunteers who give their support to CCTI.

 

CCTI’s activities are mainly focused in the Federal District, the State of Mexico and Guerrero. CCTI provides:

  • Integral health care (medical and psychological) to survivors of torture and their families inside prisons, in the offices and in the local communities

  • Psychosocial care to communities affected by torture and political violence

  • Documentation, filing formal complaints and follow-up on cases of torture

  • Medical-psychological expert reports to prove events of torture and ill-treatment

  • Training for Human Rights and health professionals as well as community promoters

  • Research on torture and it’s effects
